SHSU-Central Ark Game To Be Televised
11/10/2014 4:50:00 PM | Football
Sam Houston's 3 p.m. game with Central Arkansas on Saturday, November 22, at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium has been selected as the Southland Conference TV Network's “Wild Card Game.”
The telecast that day will mark the sixth TV appearance for the Bearkats this season.
Sam Houston football has been telecast regionally or nationally 34 times in the past four years.
The matchup will be the final game of the syndicated network's 10-game football schedule.
The wildcard feature, which was left open to determine the best matchup with conference championship implications and other factors, will highlight two teams hoping to win another league title.
If Sam Houston wins its road game at Houston Baptist next weekend and the contest with UCA, the Bearkats can clinch no worse than a tie for the 2014 Southland Conference championship. That would be SHSU football's third league title in the past four seasons.
The Bearkats are 5-1 in conference play this year and stand 6-4 for the year. Sam Houston has two victories over nationally ranked opponents this season.
Central Arkansas sits a half-game behind Sam Houston at 5-2 in conference after an overtime win at Lamar and has a bye week before concluding the regular season at Sam Houston.
Randy McIlvoy, sports director at KPRC-TV in Houston, will handle play-by-play duties and will be joined in the booth by color analyst Shea Walker, a former Texas A&M receiver and veteran broadcaster. The sideline reporter will be Brooke Bentley, a sports anchor for KUBE-TV, the Southland affiliate in Houston.
Viewers can visit Southland.org/television for a complete affiliate clearance list, plus a cable and dish channel number guide. The game will be shown in Houston on KUBE (57.1) and in Little Rock on KARZ (42.1). Nationwide, the game is available live on the ESPN GamePlan pay-per-view package.
All Southland TV games will be streamed live and for free on the Southland Digital Network, available via Southland.org/watch and the Southland's official mobile and tablet app for Apple and Android devices. Coverage is also accessible via ESPN3 at WatchESPN.com and on the WatchESPN application for smart phones, tablets, Xbox, Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire, Roku and other devices.
