Former Sam Houston State basketball player Terrance Motley has officially made the roster for the Oklahoma City Blue of the NBA Development League. The NBA D-League season starts Friday, Nov. 14, with the Blue hosting the Maine Red Claws.
In 66 career games for the Bearkats, Motley averaged 7.6 points and 4.6 rebounds in 16.4 minutes per contest. His senior season he averaged 8.5 points a game and helped lead the Kats to the Southland Tournament final and a berth in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.
Motley received a training camp invitation from Oklahoma City after participating in a team tryout in October. He made the most of his opportunity and earned a spot on the roster for the start of the season.
He was named to the 2014 ETech Lumberjack Classic all-tournament team after leading Sam Houston with 14 points in the victory over Towson. He totaled 24 points for the tournament, a 12.0 points per game average.
A product of Maricopa High School in Phoenix, Ariz., Motley scored a career high 19 points in a pivotal victory over Northwestern State. He had an outstanding night on both ends of the floor with his career high point total, while also blocking three Demon shots in the game. Motley led all scorers with 13 points in the first half, including a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Kats a 34-22 advantage at the break.
Motley came to SHSU from Western Nebraska Community College where he was an All-Nebraska Junior College and All-NJCAA Region IX selection. He averaged 10.1 points and 6.5 rebounds as he led the Cougars to within a pair of wins of earning a berth in the NJCAA National Championship tournament.
