Six Bearkat players led by Paul Baxter with 15 points scored in double figures as Sam Houston defeated University of the Southwest 111-51 in a non-conference men's basketball game Saturday night at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.

Jesse Lopez and Jamal Williams each added 14 points while Dakarai Henderson totaled 11 and Kaheem Ransom posted 10.

Reginald Sonnier led the Mustangs from the Hobbs, New Mexico, school that competes in the NAIA Red River Conference.

Sam Houston, now 4-2, never trailed, building a 55-20 halftime margin and leading by as many as 64 points in the second half.

The Kats outrebounded the Mustanges 51-37 with Lopez leading the team with seven boards. Ransom led both squads with nine assists.

Sam Houston outscored University of the Southwest 48-12 in the paint with the Bearkat bench posting 67 points.

The Bearkats return to action Wednesday when they travel to College Station to face Texas A&M.
