
Hall earns national player of week honor

P. J. Hall, Sam Houston's freshman defensive end from Seguin, has been named as FCS National Defensive Player of the Week by CollegeFootballPerformance.com.
Hall was part of an outstanding defensive performance by the Bearkats in a 21-17 opening round FCS playoff victory over No. 9 Southeastern Louisiana Saturday afternoon in Huntsville.
The Southland Conference “Freshman of the Year” totaled 10 tackles in the game including six tackles for losses and a quarterback sack. He also blocked a field goal in a play that turned the momentum in the contest.
Up three, 17-14, in the fourth quarter with the ball at the Sam Houston 29-yard line, Southeastern Louisiana elected to attempt a 46-yard field goal. The kick was blocked by Hall setting up a 7-play, 59-yard scoring drive for the winning touchdown with 7:10 to play.

Hall's 26 tackles for losses this fall stand as the second highest single season total in Bearkat football history.
Southeastern Louisiana entered Saturday's playoff game averaging 42.2 points and 480.5 yards per game. The Lions were limited to only two touchdowns, one in each half, and a field goal.
Sam Houston now moves on to second round play at Jacksonville State next Saturday. Kickoff is at 1:04 p.m. The game will be telecast by ESPN3.
