For the seventh consecutive season the Sam Houston State women's soccer team has been named as one of the winners of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award.
Head coach Tom Brown's Bearkat soccer program has been one of the leaders in academics at Sam Houston since the program's inauguration more than a decade ago.
During the 2013-14 academic year the team produced an overall squad grade point average of 3.36. The team improved upon last seasons' combined 3.19 GPA.
A total of 582 women's soccer teams posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2013-14 academic year.
The NSCAA Team Academic award recognizes academic performance and is unique in that every team has the potential for receiving the award that carries with it the following benefits:
- Demonstrates a team's goal-centered focus on their academic priority.
- Recognizes and rewards all team members for commendable academic performance.
- Adds an attractive feature to team members' college resumes that reflects commitment, responsibility, and discipline.
- Teams and team members receive recognition for academic performance through national, campus, conference, and community communication networks.
- Enhances the credibility, credentials, and reputation of a coaching staff and program that can be used in promotion and recruiting.
