Freshman defensive end P. J. Hall and junior punter Lachlan Edwards have been selected to the 2014 Sports Network FCS All-America squad.
The Sports Network and Associated Press All-America teams are the two most prestigious honor squads that recognize outstanding accomplishments in FCS play. The pair are third team selections on this year's Sports Network selections.
Hall finished third in the voting for The Sports Network's Jerry Rice Award which recognizes the top freshman in FCS play. The Sequin product was the top defensive player in the Rice award standings.
One of the top three players in the country in tackles for losses with a season total of 30 for 118 yards in losses. Hall came within one tackle for loss of tying Andre Finley's school season record of 31 set in 1988.
Hall also tied Trey Wood's season record for most kick blocks with five. Hall forced four fumbles and had an interception. His field goal block in the fourth quarter of Sam Houston's opening round playoff win over Southeastern Louisiana was the turning point in a come-from-behind victory over the Lions.
Edwards ranked as one of the top four punters in the nation with his 44.1 season average in 2014.
The Australian from Hastings, Victoria, totaled 3,525 yards on 80 punts.
That included 25 punts of more than 50 yards (including a long kick of 59), 22 punts that were fair caught and 28 boots that gave opponents field position inside their own 20 yard line.
Both players were named All-Southland Conference after helping lead Sam Houston to a 11-5 overall record this fall. After a 1-3 start, Sam Houston won 10 of its next 11 games to reach the FCS semifinals.
The Bearkats won the 2014 Southland Conference championship with a 7-1 league game, the program's third league title in four seasons.
In FCS post-season play, Sam Houston defeated three top 10 ranked opponents to reach the semifinals,, also for the third time in the past four seasons.
