
SHSU takes on Wichita State Sunday afternoon

The Sam Houston women's basketball team plays its final non-conference game of the season when the Bearkats take on Wichita State Sunday at 2 p.m. in Wichita, Kansas.
The Shockers bring an 8-3 record into contest after two victories on the way to a tournament victory at the Winter Classic. WSU defeated Louisiana-Monroe and Winthrop.
The Shockers are led by Alie Decker who set a school single-game three-point record with nine on the way to a career high 31 points. Wichita State's last loss was to No. 11 Tennessee by a 54-51 score in Knoxville.
Wichita State (8-3) plays host to Sam Houston State (1-8) at 2 p.m., Sunday afternoon, the Shockers' first game since winning the Winter Classic Dec. 19-20.
WSU is coming off two wins in the Winter Classic against ULM and a record-setting effort against Winthrop. WSU's Alie Decker set the single-game three-point record with nine en route to a career-high 31 points, while WSU held the Eagles to 20 points, the lowest point total by an opponent in history.
Decker was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Women's National Player of the Week for games ending the week of Sunday, Dec. 21. She was also named the MVC Player of the Week and the College Basketball Madness Player of the Week.
Sam Houston brings a 1-8 mark into Sunday's meeting. The Bearkats defeated Texas Southern 61-54 on December 3, but have fallen in their last three outings to Louisiana-Lafayette, Prairie View A&M and TCU. The games against the Ragin' Cajuns and the Horned Frogs both were on the road.
Scoring from the perimeter is an SHSU women's strength this year. All three of the Kats' top scorers are guards.
Transfer Shernise Robertson leads the team with a 14.1 scoring average. Taylor Dorsey also is in double figures with 12.8 points per contest. Amanda Barnes owns an 8.4 scoring mean.
Heading up the SHSU inside game are transfer Shadijah Moore with 4.3 points and 6.3 rebounds. Freshman Saundra Guillory adds 4.2 points and 5.2 boards.
Sam Houston will open Southland Conference action Saturday afternoon when the Bearkats play host to Incarnate Word.
