Wichita, Kansas – Junior guard Shernise Robertson led both teams with 20 points as Wichita State defeated Sam Houston 70-46 in a non-conference women's basketball game Sunday afternoon at the Charles Koch Center.
Jamillah Bonner led the Shockers with 17 points as WSU upped its record to 9-3. Sam Houston fell to 1-9 with the loss.
The matchup marked the final non-conference contest of the season for the SHSU women. The Kats play host to Incarnate Word at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 3, in their Southland Conference opener.
Wichita State led from wire to wire, building a 36-13 lead at intermission and going up by 33 points five minutes into the second period. Sam Houston bounced back to make the second half even as WSU outscored the Kats only 34-33 in the final 20 minutes.
Saundra Guillory also scored in double digits with 11 points and seven rebounds. Jazmin Wiley led the Kats under the boards with eight rebounds.
Wichita State's defense created 27 Bearkat turnovers which the Shockers converted into 36 points.
Sam Houston had an outstanding afternoon at the free throw line, hitting 19-of-23 charity shots. Robertson was 10-of-10 from the free throw line.
