Despite a career high 20 points from sophomore guard Taylor Dorsey, the Sam Houston women's basketball team fell to Louisiana-Lafayette 65-46 Saturday afternoon at the University Center in Lafayette.
Kia Wilrdige scored 16 and Gabby Alexander added 14 to lead the undefeated Ragin' Cajuns who now stand 5-0 for the year.
Shernise Robertson added 10 points for Sam Houston. Dorsey and Jazmin Wiley led the Kats in rebounds with six boards apiece.
Louisiana-Lafayette outscored the Bearkats 44-20 in the paint and tallied 30 points from the SHSU women's 30 turnovers.
Sam Houston trailed by only two points with 10:29 to play in the first half after a bucket by Dorsey cut the Cajuns' lead to 11-9.
But the Bearkat women would only score one point basket the rest of the period as ULL went on a 17-2 run in the final ten minutes to build a 28-11 lead at intermission.
Morghen Day scored the first basket of the second half to cut the margin to 28-13. But the Ragin' Cajuns went on a 13-0 run to go up 41-13. The Kats never came closer.
Sam Houston State, now 1-5, will take a break for final exams. Next action for the SHSU women is a home matchup with Prairie View A&M on Wednesday, December 17, at 6:30 p.m.
