Bearkats rally for 9-6 road win

The Castillo sisters , right fielder Cecilia and catcher Tiffany, combined to help Sam Houston overcome a six-run deficit to defeat Southeastern Louisiana 9-6 Sunday afternoon in Hammond, La.

The victory came after the Lions swept a doubleheader Saturday in both team's second Southland Conference softball series of the season. Sam Houston now stands 11-13 for the year and 2-4 in league play. Southeastern Louisiana dropped to 7-8 for the year and 3-3 in Southland action.

Southeastern Louisiana scored six runs (five unearned) in the bottom of the third inning to take a 6-0 lead.

Cecilia Castillo posted run-scoring doubles in both the fourth and sixth innings as the Bearkats rallied to score four runs in both frames.

Third baseman Tori Koerselman started the fourth inning rally with a sacrifice fly that scored shortstop Tayler Gray who singled. Designated hitter Hillary Adams singled in another run. Cecilia Castillo followed up with her first run-scoring play and eventually tallied herself on a passed ball.

In the sixth inning, Koerselman started more fireworks with an RBI double before Cecilia doubled for a second run and Tiffany produced a two-run homer.

Gray added the Bearkats' ninth run in the top of the seventh inning with a solo home run.

Shelby Lancaster started in the circle, pitching two and two thirds inning. Haley Baros took the win in relief, finishing the game.

Sam Houston returns home to play host to Texas Southern in a 4 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday.
