Designated player Hillary Adams set Sam Houston's career record for home runs (28) and pitcher Shelby Lancaster threw her second career no-hitter as the Bearkats defeated Nicholls 6-0 and 2-0 in a doubleheader Saturday.
Lancast'er's no-hitter was the 22nd in school history. Adams broke Kim Damian's SHSU all-time mark of 27 home runs set last year.
Offensively, the Kats tallied eight hits scoring in four different innings including the three-run home run from Adams
The Bearkats got on the board in first with a single from Tiffany Castillo to drive home Alyssa Coggins to put the SHSU up 1-0.
In the fourth, Hillary Adams got on base with a walk and was replaced by pinch runner Dani Allen. After Allen advanced to second on a put out, she would steal third and come around to score on a clutch two-out single from Jessica Slater.
After Adams' home run extended the lead to 5-0, the Kats would tack on another in the sixth thanks to a double from Tayler Gray driving home Amy Pelton.
In the second game, SHSU would receive another strong pitching performance, this time from Meme Quinn who allowed just three hits in a 2-0 Bearkats victory.
The Kats got on the board in the second via an Angelica Gonzales' RBI single that plated Hillary Adams.
Sam Houston would score again in the sixth thanks to a Tayler Gray double to bring home Jessica Slater.
Quinn improved to 3-2 on the season and lowered her ERA to 4.69 in the seven inning outing.
SHSU will try to finish off the three game sweep against Nicholls on Sunday with first pitch slated for 12 noon from the Bearkat Softball Complex.
