The Bearkats stand in second place, a game-and-a-half ahead of third place Northwestern State (24-20, SLC 12-10) and two games in front of fourth place Stephen F. Austin (21-24, SLC 12-11) and Lamar (20-25, SLC 12-11).

After three scoreless innings, Sam Houston got on the board with two runs in the top of the fourth. Catcher Tiffany Castillo singled up the middle. Pinch runner Dani Allen stole second then scored on a single to the left side by first baseman Sarah Allison.
Allison reached third on an error then scored on a sacrifice fly by second baseman Alyssa Coggins.
A&M-Corpus Christi tallied all three of its runs on three hits and two Bearkat errors in the bottom of the fifth inning.
With two out in the top of the final inning, center field Jessica Slater singled and reached second on a wild pitch to get in scoring position. But the Bearkats couldn't get the tying run home.
Sam Houston completes the regular season Saturday and Sunday, May 3-4, with a home series with Stephen F. Austin. The pair will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. The series finale Sunday will start at 12 noon.
The Bearkats will be out to clinch their third consecutive appearance in the Southland Conference post-season tournament. The SHSU women reached the tournament finals in both 2012 and 2013.
