Bearkats continue action at NCAA West Meet

Sam Houston's Rodney Jones missed advancing to the NCAA National Championships in Eugene, Oregon, by only 0.27 seconds Friday as he finished 16th in the men's 400 meter dash at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Jones posted a time of 46.53 in Friday's race. Jones qualified for the quarterfinals by running a 12th place 46.46 in Thursday's prelims.
De'Quad Binder placed 22nd in Friday's nights men's 800 meters quarterfinals with a time of 1:51.73. Binder earned his spot in the quarterfinals with a 1:50.09 clocking in Thursday's 800 meter prelims, placing 16th. The last qualifier for Eugene posted a 1:49.10 mark.
Brek Christensen placed 34th in the men's hammer throw Friday with a mark of 190' 4”. Christensen posted his top throw in his first attempt. He followed up with throws of 188' 0” and 185' 2”.
In Thursday's action, Justin Jenkins placed 27th in the 100 meter dash prelims with a time of 10.58. Jarrick Wright was 47th in the 100 meters with a 10.89 mark.
Charles White placed 19th with a mark of 23' 11.75”. White will compete in the triple jump Saturday in Fayetteville
Jay Roberson no-heighted in the first round, aiming at a height of 16' 3.25”.
The qualifiers out of the West region will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 11-14 in Eugene, Oregon.
In order to advance to the finals in Oregon, competitors must finish among the top 12 in their individual event.
Since the NCAA preliminary rounds were instituted in 2010, three Bearkats have advanced to the finals through preliminary competition.
