Punter Lachlan Edwards On CFPA Watch List

Another Bearkat has drawn preseason honors attention as Sam Houston State's Lachlan Edwards has earned a spot on the 2014 CFPA Punter Award Watch List, as announced by College Football Performance Awards.
The initial watch list includes 38 returning performers, vying for the top punter award in the Football Championship Subdivision.
Edwards led the Southland Conference in punting during the 2013 season with an average of 42.3 yards on 31 kicks. The interdisciplinary studies major from Hastings, Victoria, Australia, had a season long boot of 70 yards in the Bearkats' FCS playoffs second round game in Hammond, La.
Edwards is the third Bearkat to be named to a College Football Performance Award preseason watch list.
Senior tight end Shane Young and sophomore kicker Luc Swimberghe have earned spots on the 2014 College Football Performance Awards FCS award watch lists for their respective positions.
Swimberghe was the leading scorer for Sam Houston in 2013 with 97 points (eight field goals and 73 successful point-after attempts. Young earned honorable mention All-Southland tight end honors in 2013.
Junior offensive tackle Donald Jackson III has been named to two preseason FCS All-America squads this summer. Jackson is a third team pick on both the Sports Network and BeyondSports.com preseason teams.
Jackson earned first team All-Southland Conference honors in 2013. He has started 25 games in the offensive line during his career.
Sam Houston State opens the 2014 football season at Cheney, Washington, when the Bearkats take on Eastern Washington in a nationally-televised contest on ESPN Saturday, August 23.
The new “FCS Kickoff” will be the only college game of the day and will open ESPN's 2014 college football coverage.
The Bearkats open their 2014 home schedule Saturday August 30 by hosting Alabama State. Sam Houston will play five contests in Huntsville at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium this fall.
Season tickets for all five games at Bowers Stadium plus the “Battle of the Piney Woods” at Reliant Stadium in Houston Nov. 1 are now on sale online at www.gobearkats.com and at the SHSU athletic ticket office located in the Ron Mafrige Field House.
Single game tickets for Sam Houston's Sept. 6 game at LSU's Tiger Stadium, the “Battle of the Piney Woods” Nov. 1 and all five home games at Bowers also are now available.
