
Sam Houston climbs in both polls after win

Sam Houston State moved up in both FCS polls following the Bearkats' 51-20 victory over Alabama State Saturday.
The Bearkats climbed from No. 14 to No. 13 in the NCAA Coaches Poll and from No. 17 to No. 15 in The Sports Network rankings.
Sam Houston now has been rated among the top 25 in the FCS for 40 consecutive polls since moving into the rankings in September, 2010.
The Kats' victory over the Hornets Saturday upped SHSU's home winning streak at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium to 23 games, the longest current home winning streak in FCS football.
“I told the players after the game that, while I wasn't part of the first 22 wins, I sure was proud to be part of the 23rd Saturday,” Sam Houston head coach K. C. Keeler said. “It was an exciting win against a good football team.”
The Bearkats set school records for most total offense (685 yards) and most total plays (105).
North Dakota State took over the No. 1 ranking in The Sports Network FCS poll. Eastern Washington, preseason No. 1 for The Sports Network, dropped to No.2 The national champion Bison were voted No. 1 in the NCAA Coaches' preseason poll
Two Southland Conference teams are rated in the top 10.
Defending league champion Southeastern Louisiana remains No. 3 in both rankings. McNeese State is rated No. 6 by the coaches and No. 7 by The Sports Network.
Sam Houston, Southeastern Louisiana and McNeese all three earned FCS national playoff berths last year.
Two other Southland members, Central Arkansas and Abilene Christian received votes.
Sam Houston State takes on LSU at the enlarged 102,000 seat Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La. The game will be telecast on the new SEC-TV Network. Kickoff is at 6:39 p.m.
