Kats host McNeese Sunday

The Sam Houston women's soccer team looks to build on last week's Southland win over Incarnate Word as they host the McNeese State Cowgirls Sunday at Pritchett Field at 1 p.m. Both teams are 1-1 in league play going into the contest.
McNeese picked up a 3-2 win over Nicholls to open league play before falling 1-0 to Southeastern Louisiana. The Kats lost 3-2 to Abilene Christian before beating UIW 4-1.
Savannah LaRicci scored twice for the Cowgirls in their win over the Colonels and she has the team lead with three this season. Krista Steinbeiser scored the other goal in the match and has two goals to her name.
Bearkat midfielder Shelby McDaniel scored twice in the loss to ACU and leads the team with four goals. Forward Ashley Alonzo scored a hat trick in the win over the UIW Cardinals. The hat trick was the first by an SHSU player since 2009. Allie Johnson scored the other goal in the game and has two this season.
Goalkeeper Kylie Hambleton picked up her first win of the season after struggling early in the year.
The Bearkats will be back at home for a “Free Food Friday” against Northwestern State, Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. Then SHSU will hit the road for five straight games away from home.
