Sam Houston State sophomore forward Allie Johnson was named the Southland Conference offensive player of the week after she scored twice and assisted on two other goals in a 4-2 win over McNeese State.
The Bearkats trailed McNeese 2-0 at halftime before rallying to win 4-2. Johnson played a big part as she had a hand in each of the goals.
The Allen High School product got the Kats on the board first when she latched onto a through ball from Ashley Alonzo and hit it across the goal into the far corner.
Johnson then assisted on a long-range goal by Alonzo to tie the game. Moments later she provided a great flicked pass to allow Alonzo to give SHSU a 3-2 lead. The final goal came after Johnson pounced on a loose ball and buried it in the net.
After rugged non-conference schedule the Bearkats improved to 2-1 in Southland play. Sam Houston will host Northwestern State Friday at Pritchett Field at 6:30 p.m. before hitting the road to face SFA Sunday at 1 p.m.
