Sam Houston State competes in its third indoor track and field meet of the 2015 season Friday at the Texas A&M Team Invitational at the Gilliam Indoor Track & Field Stadium at McFerrrin Athletic Center in College Station.
The Bearkats join Houston Baptist, Lamar, McNeese State, North Texas, Northwestern State, Prairie View A&M, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Southern, Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana-Monroe in the event.
Field events open Friday with the pole vault, high jump and long jump at 12 noon. Also starting at noon will be the running events with the 60 meter dash.
Both the Bearkat men and women have posted several outstanding marks during their first two indoor competitions at Texas A&M and the University of Houston.
Freshman Jeffrey Moore won the mile at the A&M Reveille event in December and was the runner-up in the 800 meters last week at the Unviersity of Houston opener. Tyler Jentzen posted a third place finish in the men's pole vault at UH.
Overall in the two meets, the Bearkat men have produced 27 top 10 finishes. Sam Houston's women have posted 38 top 10 finishes in the two meets.
Kara Whitson won the pole vault in both meets. Paula Smith, Ashley Jenkins and the SHSU distance medley relay quartet all earned gold medals in the UH Opener last Friday.
