SHSU women host Cowgirls at 2 Saturday

Following two long road trips to Louisiana in the past week, the Sam Houston women's basketball team returns to Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum Saturday afternoon.
The Bearkats will play host to McNeese State in a 2 p.m. game that features two of the league's top scorers.
Allison Baggett of McNeese is the league's second-leading scorer this season with a 17.1 average. Sam Houston's Shernise Robertson ranks fifth in the Southland as the junior guard produces 16.5 points per game.
Robertson is coming off a 31-point performance, the season individual best for a Bearkat. Robertson's total came in a 67-64 loss Thursday night at Nicholls in Thibodaux, La.
Two other top scorers will contribute to both offensive attacks Saturday. Sophomore guard Taylor Dorsey ranks No. 12 in the Southland with 12.7 points per game. She scored a career best 27 points in Sam Houston's loss at Southeastern Louisiana. McNeese's Jaylin Johnson stands No. 21 in scoring in the league with an 11.1 scoring mean.
The Cowgirls bring a 2-2 Southland record into Saturday's contest. McNeese stands 8-7 for the year with all eight of their victories coming at home in Lake Charles. The Cowgirls are 0-5 on the road.
Sam Houston stands 3-12 for the year and is 2-3 in league action.
The Bearkats have been battling to overcome a series of early injuries. Three starters for the SHSU women – Robertson, Dorsey and point guard Morgan Day – are all averaging more than 29 minutes a game of playing time.
Junior college transfer Shadijah Moore leads the Bearkats under the boards with 5.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Freshman forward Saundra Guillory adds 5.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest.
Following Saturday's action, the SHSU women will travel to Abilene Christian on Thursday January 22 then return to Johnson Coliseum to play host to Stephen F. Austin in a doubleheader on Saturday January 24.
