SHSU faces quick turnaround for SFA Saturday

Less than 48 hours after a thrilling come-from-behind victory at Abilene Christian, the Sam Houston women's basketball team plays host to talented Stephen F. Austin Saturday at 2 p.m.
The contest opens a men's and women's doubleheader at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
Sam Houston (4-13, Southland 3-4) rallied from 58-51 down with 1:39 to play to finish with a 12-0 run to defeat the Wildcats 63-58 in Abilene Thursday. The Kats other two league wins have come over Incarnate Word and New Orleans.
The SHSU women have come close in several other league games. The Kats lost to Southland leader Northwestern State by only nine points and lost 78-76 at Southeastern Louisiana and 67-64 at Nicholls.
“It was great to get over the hump and pick up a victory at Abilene Thursday night,” SHSU head coach Brenda Nichols said. “The girls have been fighting hard all along. It took a great team effort to come from behind like that. We're looking forward to the challenge of playing the Jacks.”
Stephen F. Austin is one of three women's teams with only one loss in conference play. The Lumberjacks stand 11-5 for the year and 4-1 in the league.
SFA brings a four-game winning streak into Huntsville Saturday after victories over Southeastern Louisiana, Central Arkansas, New Orleans and ACU.
Sam Houston junior guard Shernise Robertson is the leading scorer in the Southland Conference with her 18.1 points per game. In Sam Houston's seven conference games, the transfer from Tyler Junior College sports a 22.1 scoring mean.
Robertson led SHSU with 28 points at Abilene Thursday. Ten of the 12 points the Kats scored in the final minute-and-a-half came of two Roberson three-pointers and four free throws.
Sophomore guard Taylor Dorsey also is scoring in double figures with 12.6 points per game. Dorsey totaled a career high 27 points in Sam Houston's game at Southeastern Louisiana on January 8.
Two newcomers and the squad's lone senior starter give the Kats' inside game both scoring and rebounding punch. Transfer Shadijah Moore is averaging 5.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Freshman Saundra Guillory contributes 5.1 points and 6.5 boards per contest. Jazmin Wiley, the team's only four-year senior, adds 5.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per outing.
Sophomore point guard Morghen Day runs the SHSU women's offense and leads the team with 47 assists.
SFA senior Porsha Roberts is off to a hot start in Southland action. She is averaging 18.8 points in league action and has a Southland average of 11.2 rebounds. The Lumberjack women lead the Southland in scoring offense with 71.6 points per game.
