SHSU Women Host Lamar Thursday Night

Entering the game with a two-game winning streak, the Sam Houston women's basketball team will play host to Lamar Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
The Cardinals, who stand 9-10 for the year and 6-2 in Southland play, enter the week in second place in the league standings. Lamar stands only a game behind league-leading Northwestern State.
Sam Houston State (5-13, 4-4) is in seventh place after a pair of thrilling finishes gave the Bearkats victories over Abilene Christian and Stephen F. Austin last week.
In Abilene last Thursday, the SHSU women were down 58-51 with 1:39 to play before going on a 12-0 run to finish the contest with a 58-51 victory. Shernise Robertson, who led both teams with 28 points in the game, scored 10 of SHSU's points during the final run including four consecutive free throws in the finals 17 seconds.
Saturday the junior guard led the Kats with 21 points including a pair of free throws for the inning points with 12 seconds left in a 65-64 thriller against Stephen F. Austin.
Robertson was named Southland Conference women's basketball “player-of-the-week” following the victories.
Another transfer, two sophomores and a true freshman comprise the Bearkats' young starting lineup. Robertson's back-court partner, sophomore Taylor Dorsey (12.3 ppg), also owns a double figure scoring average. Sophomore Morghen Day (5.8 ppg, 57 assists) starts at point guard.
Shadijah Moore (5.5 ppg, 6.4 rpg), a transfer from Shelton State JC in Alabama, and true freshman Saundra Guillory (5.1 ppg, 6.5 rpg) handle the Kats' inside game. Jazmin Wiley (5.7 ppg, 4.5 rpg) is Sam Houston's only fourth-year senior.
Lamar defeated Houston Baptist 80-64 on Saturday. Guard JaMeisha Edwards leads Lamar in scoring at 13.7 points per game, including 16.3 points per contest in Southland action. Dominuque Edwards averages 12.9 points and a team-best 7.5 rebounds per outing. Edwards enters Thursday's game with 1,007 career points.
Lamar leads the overall series between the two squads 29-25. The Cardinals swept the two-game series last season.
