The Sam Houston volleyball team plays host to Central Arkansas Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
The Bears come into the contest in second place in the league standings with a 7-2 Southland record. Sam Houston is in fourth place with a 4-3 league mark. The Bearkats dropped their last two matches, falling on the road at Abilene Christian and Lamar.
Errors hurt the Kats' attack in both losses. Tuesday night in Beaumont, Sam Houston totaled 71 kills while Lamar posted 59. But the Cardinals committed only 13 attack errors while the Kats produced 32 along with 10 service errors. Sam Houston had 38 errors in the Abilene Christian match.
“We can come back from the two losses but we're going to have to be stronger mentally,” Sam Houston setter and team captain Michelle Griffith said. “There's a lot of volleyball left.”
Sam Houston players continue to be statistical leaders in the Southland Conference. Brooke White has totaled 259 kills this season. Jordyn Vaughn and Taylor Cunningham own kills averages of 3.52 and 2.23 per set, respectively.
Griffith has totaled 828 assists to average 10.48 per set. Claire Kilpatrick also stands among the league's top liberos with 4.09 digs per set.
Central Arkansas' Heather Schnars is the league's leader in kills with 299 this year for 4.04 per set. Schnars also leads the league in service aces with 49.
