Hello again! So we came out of this weekend with two big wins against two great teams. They were both tough competitors but we are very grateful to have come out on top this weekend. We look forward to continuing our winning streak this weekend against Northwestern State. As of now, we are tied for second with Houston Baptist while Stephen F. Austin is in first.
On Friday, we played McNeese State and beat them 2-1. We were scoreless at the end of the first half but then we scored with 17 minutes left in regulation. We led the game 1-0 but unfortunately they scored with 24 seconds left which meant we had to go into overtime. Thankfully, we came out victoriously with a goal in the second overtime period. We were very thankful to have come out with a win on Friday. On Saturday, we did some technical work but for the most part it was a recovery practice as well as preparing for the game on Sunday.
We had a lot of time to do team bonding on Saturday. After practice, we went straight to lunch and then back to the hotel for some down time. A few people did their homework down in the lobby while some went to other people's rooms to watch football. Coach also gave us a choice to go to the movies before dinner so that we were able to get out of the hotel for a few hours. It was a fun afternoon filled with activities and then a team dinner at Cracker Barrel to end the night!
Then on Sunday, we played against Lamar. We definitely out-played them throughout the entire game but just none of our shots were going in. We finished the game with 31 shots but were only able to put one in the back of the net. We scored within the first minute of the second half and had ample opportunities after that goal but we were just not able to put another one away. We ended up only beating Lamar 1-0 when we should have had a few more goals, but we will definitely be working on finishing this week in practice.
Coming out of this weekend 2-0 was huge for us. We are now 4-1 in conference which ties us for second with Houston Baptist. This next weekend, we have only one game on Friday at Northwestern State and we look forward to bringing home another win to improve our record. This season has been exciting to say the the least and we look forward to what else our team can accomplish during the last few games before heading into conference tournament.
