
Southland honors Kat front line players

Two Sam Houston volleyball players, both hometown Huntsville products, have been honored by the Southland Conference.
Jordyn Vaughn, sophomore outside hitter, was one of the six players named to the 2015 Southland Conference Volleyball All-Tournament team. Vaughn dominated Sam Houston's two opponents to lead the Kats to the semifinals of the event held last weekend in Conway, Arkansas.
The Bearkats upset No. 2 seed and tournament host Central Arkansas in three sets to open the tournament.
Vaughn registered 27 kills, an average of 4.50 per set, to lead the Sam Houston volleyball team. She also added two service aces to account for 29 points. She was the team leader in both tournament matches with 14 kills in the win over UCA and 13 in the semis against Houston Baptist.
For the year, Vaughn totaled 309 kills (3.51 per set) and compiled 335 points in 26 appearances. She 15 double figure kill performances during the season.
Taylor Cunningham, a freshman outside hitter and middle blocker, was an honorable mention All-Southland selection. Playing in 31 matches this season, Cunningham totaled 228 kills, and a team-high 49 blocks. Cunningham had 10 double digit kill performances during the 2015 season.
Cunningham also was a big factor in Sam Houston's success at the Southland tournament. She accounted for 16 kills and four blocks in the Bearkats' two matches.
