Josh Reynolds, wide receiver from Axtell, Texas, has become the fourth Sam Houston football player to earn selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, the College Sports Information Directors' Association announced Thursday.
The senior mass communications major who has compiled a perfect 4.00 grade point average in his academic career as a Bearkat is one of only 24 players named to the team.
All NCAA Division I football players from universities in Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming who have compiled an overall grade point average of 3.30 on a 4-point scale are eligible for nomination. The district includes teams from the Big 12, Southeastern, American Athletic, Conference USA, Sun Belt, Big Sky and Southland Conference.
Sports information directors from university in the district vote for the team members.
Each of the 24 members of the Academic All-District 7 squad now will be included on the ballot for 2015 Academic All-America honors.
Reynolds came to Sam Houston as a walk-on and served on the scout team as a freshman. The past two years, he has played as a reserve wide receiver, making 15 catches for 182 yards and a touchdown.
The fourth Sam Houston football player to earn CoSIDA Academia All-District honors, Reynolds stands as one of nine Bearkats so honored from all sports.
Previous winner of the prestigious award from Sam Houston have been Kevin Riley (football 1993), Chad Scott (football 1997), Ryan Bright (men's basketball 2008), Jordan Bowersox (football 2009), Jenny Pence (soccer 2009), Josten Crow (men's basketball 2010), Lance Pevehouse (2010 and 2011), Alyssa Coggins (softball 2014) and Janine Kuwahara (bowling 2015).
