Rematch With Wildcats Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

The Sam Houston State women play host to Abilene Christian Thursday night in a Southland Conference basketball game critical to the Bearkats' hopes of being one of the eight teams going to Katy for the post-season tournament in March.
The SHSU women currently hold down the number eight spot in the league standings with a 5-6 mark. The Bearkats lead the two teams competing with them for the final berth in the tournament (Southeastern Louisiana and Houston Baptist) by two victories. Sam Houston stands 6-15 for the year.
Abilene Christian, not eligible for post-season play as the Wildcats are in a transition season from Division II to Division I, stand 12-10 for the year and 4-7 in Southland action.
Sam Houston defeated ACU 63-58 in Abilene in the pair's earlier meeting January 22. The Bearkats trailed 58-51 with 1:39 to play. But the SHSU women outscored the Wildcats 12-0 in the final minute-and-a-half. Robertson accounted for 10 of those points with a pair of three pointers and four free throws.
Junior guard Shernise Robertson scored 28 points including 10 of the final 12. She earned Southland Conference women's basketball player-of-the-week honors afterward.
Robertson (18.8 ppg), a transfer guard from Tyler JC, leads the Southland in scoring. She has totaled more than 20 points in six of her last seven games.
Her back-court partners, sophomores Taylor Dorsey (12.4 ppg) and Morghen Day (5.8 ppg, 59 assists) add to the SHSU women's offense.
The Wildcats are led by 6-3 sophomore forward Sydney Shelstead who is averaging 12..6 points per contest. Four other ACU players also average in double digits.
Following Thursday's game, Sam Houston will travel to Sharp Gym in Houston to take on Houston Baptist at 4 p.m. Saturday.
