Tyler Adams Wins SLC Freshman of Year Honor

For the second year in a row and the second time in Sam Houston's 28 years of competition in NCAA Division I track and field, a Bearkat has been named as Southland Conference Indoor men's “Freshman of the Year.”
Tyler Adams from Oakwood, Texas and Buffalo High School was voted the honor by the league's head coaches after leading Sam Houston to a second-place finish at the 2015 Southland Indoor.
Adams took first place in both the heptathlon and the high jump. In the heptathlon the freshman finished first in the 1,000 meter run (2:37.62), high jump (6' 8”), 60 meter hurdles (8.52), pole vault (16' 10.75") and long jump (22' 11.75”) to total 5,221 points. His pole vault and 1,000 meter marks were Southland Conference meet records.
Adams leadped 7' 1” to earn the gold medal in the high jump.
Bearkat Jay Roberson, last year's Southland indoor “Freshman of the Year”, was one of four Bearkats who, along with Adams, earned All-Southland honors at the indoor meet. Justin Jenkins, Rodney Jones and William Stark also received the honor.
Jenkins won the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.78. Jones finished as runner-up in the 400 meter dash (46.97) and third in the 200 meters (21.41). Moore was runner-up the 800 meter run with a clocking of 1:51.58. Stark placed third in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.21. Roberson was third in the heptathlon with 5,105 points.
