Third baseman Peyton Webb produced the Sam Houston's lone run Wednesday in a 9-1 run-rule loss to the nation's No. 20 ranked softball program Texas A&M.
Webb blasted her fifth home run of the season in the fourth inning. Second baseman Dani Allen produced the Bearkats' only other hit with a single in the first inning.
Pitcher Katie Marks struck out four of the 17 SHSU batters she faced to pick up the victory in the circle. Texas A&M upped its season mark to 20-5. Sam Houston falls to 7-15.
The Aggies opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with a bases loaded walk to go up 1-0. Texas A&M added another run in the third and exploded for six runs in the fourth frame.
Right fielder Tori Vidales led A&M at the plate going 3-for-3. Her RBI single in the bottom of the fifth ended the contest.
Jordan Franks was the losing pitcher. Meme Quinn and Tayler Atkinson saw action in the circle in relief.
Sam Houston returns to Southland Conference action Friday at 3 p.m. when the Bearkats play host to Nicholls in a 6:30 p.m. single game at the Softball Complex. The Colonels bring a 14-7 overall record and 2-1 league mark into the contest. The pair complete the series Saturday with a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
