2015 Signees Post Top Seasons

The 2015 signees for Sam Houston women's basketball all have had outstanding seasons this winter.
Four future Bearkats led their teams to the regional final level. One led her team to the Arkansas Class 5A state championship game.
A closer look at these accomplishments shows the new talent that will join the SHSU women's program next year.
Lydia Baxter, a 5-10 small forward for Austin Bowie High School, led her squad to a 31-3 record and earned first team all-district honors. Bowie lost in the regional finals to Dallas Skyline.
Ashleigh Cooper, a 6-1 forward for coach Norma Sierra at Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville, earned both TGCA Class 6A all-state and first team all-district honors. She recorded 12.8 points and 11.2 rebounds per game.
Laurynn McGowen, a 5-8 combo guard for coach Courtney Phillips, led Seguin to a 29-8 record and an appearance in the regional finals. She was named as a first-team All District player, Offensive Player of the year, Defensive MVP, TABC All Region, TGCA All State, Academic All District and Academic All State. She was team captain of a district championship squad.
Kamry Orr, a 5-5 combo guard for coach Michael Green at Little Rock Central High School, led her team to a 24-4 mark. She was named as a McDonald's Full Court award nominee and was selected as to play in the Metro All-Star game. She was both an Arkansas Class 7A all-state and all-conference player.
Berniezha " Bree" Tidwell, a 5-5 point guard for Hot Springs High School has lead her team to an undefeated record and the Arkansas Class 5A state championship. Tidwell scored the game-winning points in overtime in the title game.
“We are so excited to have all five of these players join the Sam Houston program next year,” SHSU head coach Brenda Nicholls said. “They are a talented group of student-athletes not only on the court but in the classroom. Some of their honors include All-Academic recognition and National Honor Society membership. They come from winning programs and know what it takes to be successful.”
