School Record Highlights Texas Relay Wrapup

Danielle Demas wrapped up action for the Sam Houston track and field team with a school record in the 100 meter hurdles.
Demas placed sixth in the event with a time of 13.16, breaking the school mark set by Sabrina Starr last May when Starr won the Southland Conference championship with a time of 13.19. Demas qualified for the finals with a time of 13.55.
Elizabeth Lyssy won the university section B women's javelin competition to highlight Thursday's opening day action at the Texas Relays in Austin for Sam Houston State.
Lyssy hurled the javelin 156 feet 1 inch on her opening attempt in the event. With the mark, Lyssy became only the third Sam Houston women's student-athlete to throw the javelin farther than 155 feet.
Ashley Jenkins and Adrienne Quillan posted Texas Relays top 10 finishes in the hammer. Jenkins, the school record holder in the event, tossed the hammer 186 feet, three inches. Quillin, who owns the SHSU women's second longest hammer toss in the record books, posted a throw of 178 feet, six inches.
Evan Arambula and Garrett Larson highlighted achievements for the Bearkat men's team. Arambula placed sixth in the university section B men's 1500 meters with a time of 3:56.59. Larson placed eighth in the university section B men's pole vault with a mark of 16 feet, 6.75 inches.
Camry Grisby, Kodii Church, Jordan Grady and Ruth Amaku posted a time of 3:42.91 to qualify for the finals of the women's 4x400 relay.
In the men's 110 meter hurdles, Matthew Viverette finished 18th with a 14.42 clocking and William Stark was 28th with a time of 14.82. Justin Jenkins placed 16th in the 100 meters with a mark of 10.61.
DeMartie Allen, Justin Jenkins, Rodney Jones and Chris Jefferson posted a 17th place time of 41.10 in the 4x100 relay. Robert Monticone, Viverette, Jeffrey Moore and Arrambula combined for a time of 10:14.76 to place 15th in the men's distance medley relay.
