
High Marks Posted In Several Meets

The Sam Houston men's and women's track and field teams were spread across the country this past weekend competing in meets in California and Texas. Several competitors posted season best marks and other top times.
Danielle Demas continued her winning ways with a first place at the Bryan Clay Relays hosted by Azusa Pacific. Demas won the event with a time of 13.28 just 0.12 seconds off her school record 13.16 mark at the Texas Relays earlier this year.
Matt Viverette had an amazing weekend winning events in two different track meets.
At the Long Beach State Beach Invitational, he won the men's 110-meter hurdles with a 13.85, the Southland's best time in the event this year and one of the top times in the nation. He also won the 400 meter hurdles with a mark of 51.82.
The day before, Viverette won the 400 meters at the Mount Sac Relays with a time of 51.78. He also placed third in the 110 hurdles with a mark of 14.02.
Justin Jenkins won the 100 meters at Long Beach with a mark of 10.36.
William Stark had a season best of 52.44 in the 400 hurdles in Long Beach. Chris Jefferson posted a 10.62 timing in the 100 meter dash.
For the women, Kristine Hanks threw 49' 4.5” in the shot put and 133' 0.5” in the discus. Kaylynne Wright has a season best 18' 8” mark in the long jump. Paula Smith ran a women's team season best with a 24.60 in the 200 meter dash. Jordan Grady and Kodii Church had season bests of 54.85 and 56.16, respectively in the 400 meter dash.
The Bearkat women's 4x400 relay of Ruth Amaku, Church, Grady and Camry Grigsby rolled to a 3:38.33 clocking.
Men's season best field performances this weekend included Kalvin Singletary 185' 11.5” in the hammer and 160' 2.75” in the discus, Joey Babbs 6' 11” and Garrett Larson 16' 6.75” in the pole vault.
In running events, Justin Jenkins posted 10.35 in the 100 meter dash, Rodney Jones 46.55 in the 400 meter dash, Ryan Saam 14:47.88 in the 5,000 meters and Matthew Viverette 14.02 in the 110 hurdles.
