Colt Atwood Setting Bearkat Career Marks

While helping lead Sam Houston to a non-conference baseball series win over No. 23 ranked Oklahoma this weekend in Norman, center fielder Colt Atwood added another record to his growing list of career achievements at Sam Houston.
The senior center fielder's three appearances in the contests this weekend bring his career total of games played to 226. That breaks the 28-year mark of 224 games played set by Terry Pirtle in 1984 through 1987.
Atwood also holds the Sam Houston record for most games started with 224. The Katy product's 931 at bats has eclipsed the old mark of 868 set by Braeden Riley in 2008 through 2011.
A fourth Bearkat lifetime standard, also set by Riley, is within Atwood's reach in upcoming games. Riley totaled 291 hits in his career. Atwood now stands at 282.
During Atwood's four-year career at Sam Houston, the senior has produced a .303 career batting average with 31 doubles, five triples and 523 total bases.
In his 226 appearances, Atwood has produced 84 multiple hit games. His longest hitting streak has been 14 games during his sophomore season.
Atwood's next opportunity to add to his career marks will be Tuesday night when the Bearkats travel to face the University of Houston Cougars on their home field in a 6:30 p.m.
Sam Houston plays host to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi this weekend in an important Southland Conference series. Games are set for Friday at 6:30 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Bearkats will enter the weekend tied for third place in the Southland Conference standings with a 13-8 league record. Southeastern Louisiana leads the race with a 17-4 mark. Northwestern State stands second with a 16-7 slate.
