Football Players Giving Back To Huntsville

The defending Southland Conference champion Bearkat football team has taken time off from studies and spring practice to volunteer to help in the Huntsville community.
Football players have visited students at Stewart Elementary and Sam Houston Elementary schools where the student-athletes helped youngsters with homework and reading.
The team also was involved in an Easter egg hunter at the Huntsville Boys and Girls Club.
“The guys have been really jumping in with both feet with the community service,” Sam Houston State head football coach K. C. Keeler said. “What we do is have every position to do their own community service. And then we do a big endeavor where the offensive staff works with the defensive players in a service project and the defensive staff teams with the offensive players in an community effort.”
Student-athletes from all 17 sports teams at Sam Houston State are well known for their work in the Huntsville area community to various projects through the SHSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
“We've been involved in a whole bunch of things and, as this program grows, we're going to expand what we do in terms of community service,” Keeler said. “Obviously, we get great support from this community in terms of financial support and fans at ball games. It's really important to give back to our community and the kids are conscious of that.”
