“Past, Present and Future” is the theme of the 2015 Sam Houston State Orange-White spring football game this Friday (April 10) at 7 p.m. at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium.
The annual scrimmage will signal the completion of four weeks of spring practice for the defending Southland Conference football champions who rolled up an 11-5 record and reached the semifinals of the FCS playoffs last fall.
“It's going to be a neat day,” Keeler said. “We're going to highlight the past, the present and the future next Friday. We've had some great success in the past with conference championships and national playoff appearances. Our former lettermen will participate in a special barbeque. Obviously, we have the present in the guys in spring ball and their families coming in. And we will have the future with our entire signing class and their families here as well.”
All former Sam Houston football lettermen are invited to participate in the Spring Game Barbeque Friday at 5 p.m. prior to the game. Former Bearkat footballers can RSVP and purchase BBQ tickets for $10 by contacting Ashten Ackerman at aackerman@shsu.edu or by calling (936) 294-2364. Tickets at the BBQ Friday night will be $15.
The Huntsville Memorial Hospital will have a presentation during the spring game recognizing stroke survivors and informing people of the Neon for Neurons Fun Run on May 22.
Sam Houston State students who attend the Orange-White game will have the opportunity to win prizes in exciting contests during the event.
“We've had a great spring this year,” Keeler said. “We're light years ahead of last year and have improved so much just in the three weeks of spring ball.”
Sam Houston returns 57 lettermen from last year's championship squad. The Bearkats lost only two senior starters to graduation.
“I really like where this team is going right now,” Keeler said. “We're working on things like assignments, technique and alignment. The attitude and the work ethic is great.”
