
Men pick up four gold medals Sunday

The Sam Houston men piled up plenty of medals on the final day of the 2015 Southland Conference Track & Field Championships hosted by Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond.
The Bearkat men finished second in the team competition behind Stephen F. Austin. The Jacks scored 153.5 points. The Kats were second with 139.5 points and Southeastern Louisiana was third with 119.5 points.
Tyler Adams got the Bearkats off to a good start, winning the high jump with a season best leap of six feet, 11.5 inches. Adams also won the Southland Conference indoor high jump championship. Joey Babbs scored in the event with a jump of six feet, six inches.
The Sam Houston 4x100 relay of Simon Imagbe, Justin Jenkins, Rodney Jones and Chris Jefferson rocketed around the oval in 40.06 seconds, just 11 hundreds of a second off the school record the quartet set earlier this spring.
Matt Viverette and William Stark continued the men's winning ways, taking first and second place, respectively in the 110 meter hurdles. Viverette ran the distance in 13.87. Stark's runner-up time was 14.33.
Viverette and Stark followed up with second and fourth places in the 400 meter hurdles. Viverette was clocked in 50.88 while Stark posted a time of 52.67.
Jenkins struck gold again with a victory in the 100 meters with a time of 10.24, tying a Sam Houston school record.
Jones and Gilreath added to the Kats' point total in the 400 meters. Jones was third in a 46.54 time while Gilreath place seventh running the distance in 48.31. Jeffrey Moore improved his status in the 800 meters. The eight place finisher in the prelims, he posted a fifth place time of 1:52.77.
Jenkins and Jones struck again in the 200 meters. Jenkins was the event runner-up with a time of 20.81. Jones finished fourth with a 20.88 mark.
Garrett Rose, Garrett Larson and Tyler Jentzen all scored in the pole vault. Rose and Larson each leaped 15 feet, 11.75 inches to place fourth and fifth. Larson tied for eighth.
Another trio of Sam Houston field participants added to the point total in the discus. Kalvin Singletary (171 feet 4.5 inches) was fourth, James Endsley (163 feet 4.5 inches) seventh and Aaron Akers eight (160 feet 6.25 inches)
