
Men pick up medals in Friday's first day action

Third places by Trevor Sealy in the hammer and Kagan Angers in the long jump were bright spots for the Sam Houston men's track and field team on the first day of action at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships.
Sealy threw the hammer 195 feet, 11 inches. Ammaad McCarthy also posted points for the Kats in the event with a sixth place mark of 179 feet, three inches.
Angers leaped 24 feet 0.75 inches, the best long jump performance by a Bearkat during the outdoor season. Angers also is faring well in the men's decathlon along with Jay Roberson.
After the opening day's events, Roberson stands fifth with 3,566 points while Angers in seventh place with 3,460 points. Angers also won the decathlon long jump with a mark of 22 feet, 6.5 inches. Roberson was second in the decathlon 400 meter dash and third in the event's shot put.
As a team, the Bearkat men are in fourth place after Friday's action. Southeastern Louisiana leads with 27 points followed by Stephen F. Austin 25,, McNeese State 16 and Sam Houston 15.
