
Men pick up finals berths in Saturday prelims

Six Bearkats qualified for Sunday's running finals at the 2015 Southland Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Hammond, La.
Sam Houston stands in fourth place in the men's team standings. Southeastern Louisiana holds down first with a point total of 81. Stephen F. Austin is in second place with 67 points, followed by McNeese State 41 and Sam Houston 32.
Justin Jenkins was the top qualifier in both the 100 and 200 meters with times of 10.28 and 20.95, respectively. Rodney Jones posted the third best prelim time in the 200 meters with a 21.12 clocking. Jones also qualified in the 400 meters with a third place time of 47.34.
Matt Viverette and William Stark finished first and second in the 110 meter with times of 14.10 and 14.42, respectively. Stark was third in the 400 meters with a time of 52.79 while Viverette had the fourth best mark of 52.80.
Jeffrey Moore was the final prelim participant to qualify in the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.36.
Three Bearkats scored in the 3,000 meter steeplechase as Patrick Pitts placed third with a time of 9:18.74, Evan Arrambula fourth 9:20.41 and Logan Terry sixth 9:27.63.
Kalvin Singletary was seventh in the shot put with a throw of 49 feet, 9.25 inches. Kagan Angers place eighth in the decathlon with 6,046 points. Jay Roberson was unable to finish the decathlon due to an injury in the pole vault.
Friday, Trevor Sealy and Angers earned third place medals in the hammer and the long jump, respectively. Sealy threw the hammer 195 feet, 11 inches. Angers leaped 24 feet 0.75 inches, the best long jump performance by a Bearkat during the outdoor season.
Ammaad McCarthy also posted points Friday with a sixth place mark of 179 feet, three inches in the hammer.
