Sporting News College Football Ranks Kats No. 2

Another national preseason football publication has tabbed Sam Houston as the favorite to win the 2015 Southland Conference championship and finish as one of the top five teams in the FCS rankings.
Sporting News College Football ranks the Bearkats No. 2 in its preseason FCS predictions behind four-time NCAA national champion North Dakota State. In addition, the publication has named both Sam Houston defensive end P. J. Hall and offensive lineman Donald Jackson III to its 25-player FCS All-America Team.
North Dakota State, Sam Houston, Illinois State, Villanova and Eastern Washington comprise Sporting New College Football's national top five. Other Southland Conference teams in the magazine's top 25 are Stephen F. Austin at No. 19 and Southeastern Louisiana at No. 21.
In the publication's article entitled “Loaded Bearkats should make strong run at FCS championship,” the magazine has Sam Houston as the number one pick in the 2015 Southland race followed by Stephen F. Austin, Southeastern Louisiana, Central Arkansas, Lamar, Abilene Christian, McNeese State, Northwestern State, Nicholls, Incarnate Word and Houston Baptist.
Hall, last year's Southland Conference “Freshman of the Year” and third-place finisher in the voting for the Sports Network's Jerry Rice Award as FCS national “Freshman of the Year”, and Jackson, a three-year starter for the Kats, join defensive lineman Jonathan Woodard of Central Arkansas and defensive back Harlan Miller of Southeastern Louisiana on the Sporting News College Football pre-season FCS All-America squad.
Sam Houston player report for 2015 preseason camp on Thursday, August 6. The Bearkats open the season on Saturday Sept. 5 in Lubbock against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
