Women unveil exciting 2016 basketball schedule

The Sam Houston women's basketball team will play a 29-game schedule in 2015-16 that includes 13 home games at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum, Bearkat head coach Brenda Nichols has announced.
The women will make one other home appearance as they play host to Mary Hardin-Baylor in a preseason exhibition game on Saturday, November 7. The regular season home schedule includes nine Southland Conference games plus a non-conference slate highlighted by a visit by the Rice Owls Thursday December 17.
Other home non-conference games pit the Bearkats against Our Lady of the Lake Friday November 20 and LSU-Alexandria Monday, November 23. The contest with Our Lady of the Lake is this year's “Pack The House” game, an annual event attended by more than 2,000 youngsters from area elementary and middle schools.
Non-conference road trips will take the Sam Houston to face TCU, Arkansas, Texas Southern, Kansas State and Texas as well as compete in the LIU-Brooklyn Thanksgiving Classic.
“We're really excited about our upcoming schedule,” Nichols said. “First off, we have more home games this year. It's always great to play in front of our home town fans. And we have non-conference games lined up against outstanding opponents both at home and on the road. Playing the big name schools in non-conference always helps us get ready for our challenging Southland schedule.”
Sam Houston returns eight letter-winners from last season plus an outstanding recruiting class.
“This coming season we're going to have a good mix of solid veterans and talented newcomers,” Nichols said.
Southland Conference action will begin in January. The Bearkats will host league games with Southeastern Louisiana, New Orleans, Nicholls, Abilene Christian, Houston Baptist, Central Arkansas, A&M-Corpus Christi and Stephen F. Austin.
