Sam Houston junior quarterback Jared Johnson has been named to the College Football Performance Awards FCS National Performer of the Year watch list.
Johnson passed for 3,054 yards during the Kats' Southland Conference championship campaign last year, the most in one season by a Bearkat sophomore. He ranked second in the Southland and No. 13 in FCS in total passing yards and stood fifth in Southland and No. 36 nationally in total offense (253.3).
The CFPA list includes thirty-two returning performers from the Football Championship Subdivision. All FCS players are eligible for the award.
The award winner will be announced January 13, 2016.
The Sam Houston football team reports for pre-season camp on Thursday, August 6. The Bearkats open the 2015 season in Lubbock against the Texas Tech Red Raiders Saturday Sept. 5.
