Bearkat Trio Named Preseason All-America

Donald Jackson III, P. J. Hall and Lachlan Edwards from Sam Houston have been named to the STATS FCS Preseason All-America Team, released by The Sports Network on Thursday.
Jackson, a 6-2 280-pound senior offensive lineman from Kilgore is a first team selection. Hall and Edwards were named to the All-America second team. Hall is a 6-1 280-pound defensive end from Seguin. Edwards is a 6-5 215-pound punter from Hastings, Victoria in Australia.
Six other Southland Conference players were named to the 100-player preseason All-America selection that includes representatives from 63 schools from all 13 FCS conferences. Four-time defending FCS national champion North Dakota State had the most selections with five.
Other Southland selections include defensive back Brent Spikes from McNeese State, defensive lineman Jonathan Woodard from Central Arkansas, defensive back Harlan Miller and kick return specialist Xavier Roberson from Southeastern Louisiana, Northwestern State all-purpose athlete Ed Eagan and offensive lineman Byron Williams from Stephen F. Austin.
All three Bearkat players were All-Southland Conference first team selections following Sam Houston's 11-5 season in 2014 that included the program's third league title and trip to the FCS semifinals in the past four years.
Williams has started 36 games for the Bearkats the past three seasons and was selected to three All-America honor squads last year (Associated Press, CollegeSportsMadness.com and BeyondSportsNetwork.com.
Hall earned Southland Conference “Freshman of the Year” honors after rolling up 47 tackles including 29 tackles for losses (the fourth highest total in FCS play last year). Finishing third place in the voting for the Jerry Rice Award as FCS “Freshman of the Year,” Hall was the top defensive player in the balloting.
Edwards led the Southland Conference with a 44.1 punting average in 2014 that included 28 punts inside the 20-yard line and 25 boots of more than 50 yards.
The Bearkats report for preseason camp on August 6 and will start the season on Sept. 5 at Texas Tech. Season tickets for Sam Houston's six home games at Elliott T.
