The most successful event in the 27-year history of the Bearkat Athletics dinner and auction was highlighted by the introduction of the logo and the promotional video for the celebration of Sam Houston football's 100th season.
More than $400,000 was raised Friday night at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum in the annual fundraiser which benefits the Bearkat football enrichment fund and allows patrons to dine with Sam Houston student-athletes, learn more about the program and bid on outstanding items through silent and live auctions.
The 2015 Bearkat Athletics Dinner and Auction is presented by Carol Hail Weller, '69, and Joe Weller. Other event sponsors include Carolyn Chipman Faulk, '70; ARAMARK/SH Dining Services; Jonathan C. Amato, '08, and Joseph Amato, '72; and Alan L. Tinsley, PC, and Stewart Builders, Inc.
“What an exciting time for Bearkat football. This event will help build an even stronger program here at Sam Houston,” head coach K.C. Keeler said. “All money raised from ticket sales and the auction will benefit the young men who represent our university and community as Bearkat football players. It was a fantastic turnout.”
The new logo and video are part of a celebration that will last throughout the 2015 football year as Sam Houston seeks to defend its Southland Conference championship.
The video will be viewed in all telecasts of Bearkat football as well as for promotion of Sam Houston athletics throughout the Greater Houston and Huntsville area.
Sam Houston played its first football game in 1912. College football in Huntsville has been continuous since then with the exception of the war years in 1918 and 1943-45.
The Bearkats stand as one of only three FCS programs to participate in the NCAA playoffs each of the last four seasons. Sam Houston has reached the FCS playoffs Final Four three times and played in the national championship game twice since 2011. The Kats have won three of the last four Southland Conference championships and rank as the winningest college football team in Texas during the past four years.
