Sixteen former Sam Houston State baseball players are currently playing in the professional ranks. Each week during the summer, we take a look back at how these Pro Kats fared. Below is a look at how each player is performing through August 9.
Alex Bisacca | Gulf Coast League Yankees (Rookie Ball) | New York Yankees
The Yankees' 35th-round selection made a pair of road appearances last week, striking out three in two innings while allowing one hit on Wednesday and allowing two runs on five hits in an inning Saturday. The righty has fanned nine in as many innings while allowing three earned runs this season.
Logan Boyd | Lowell Spinners (Class-A Short Season) | Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox' 2015 19th-round selection tossed 4 2-3 innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out four and walking one on Thursday. In seven appearances, including 17 2-3 innings, the lefty owns a 3.57 ERA and has struck out 19 hitters to just nine walks.
Ryan Brinley | Hagerstown Suns (Class-A) | Washington Nationals
The Nationals' 2015 27th-round pick made his second and third appearances since being promoted to Hagerstown last week, allowing two hits and no runs in an innings of work on Tuesday before giving up three hits and one run in two innings on Friday. The run snapped the righty's nine-game scoreless streak.
Carter Burgess | Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A) | Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays' 2014 Round 28 selection was placed back on the active roster after spending time on the seven-day disabled list. The third baseman is hitting .243 (18-for-74) in 22 games with Bowling Green this season and recorded hits in four of his last five games with the last appearance coming on July 24.
Cody Dickson | Bradenton Marauders (Class-A Advanced) | Pittsburgh Pirates
The 2013 Round 4 Pirates' selection earned his 10th win on Saturday, tossed 6 2-3 innings, allowing three hits and one run. The lefty struck out three and walked four while moving his record to 6-0 (10-5 overall) over his last 10 starts.
Tyler Eppler | Bradenton Marauders (Class-A Advanced) | Pittsburgh Pirates
The sixth-round 2014 Pirates' selection earned the start on Wednesday, picking up the win after allowing three runs on five hits in as many innings. The righty struck out three and walked three while moving to 3-1 with a 4.31 ERA in 39 2-3 innings over 10 games.
Dallas Gallant | High Desert Mavericks (Class-A Advanced) | Texas Rangers
The Twins' 23rd-round selection in 2013 made his second appearance on Friday since being traded to the Texas Rangers organization. The righty allowed one run on three hits in a pair of innings while striking out four. Prior to the trade, Gallant allowed four runs in 12 1-3 innings with the Fort Myers Miracle while holding opponents to a .227 average.
Andrew Godail | Williamsport Crosscutters (Class-A Short Season) | Philadelphia Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies' 2015 26th-round selection notched a pair of appearances last week, allowing two hits in as many innings on Monday while fanning three and giving up one hit in an inning on Friday. The lefty has posted six straight scoreless innings and has not allowed a run in eight of his last nine games. In 13 games, Godail has posted a 2.70 ERA limiting opponents to a .233 average.
Dustin Martin | Toros de Tijuana (Triple-A Mexican League) | MLB affiliate
The 26th-round pick by the Twins in 2006 continued his tear with the Toros, going 7-for-22 at the plate while swiping three bags over five games last week. On Friday, the outfielder launched his third home run in a five-game span. Martin has raked in 17 RBIs over the last 10 games, posting a .342 average in that span.
Ryan O'Hearn | Wilmington Blue Rocks (Class-A Advanced) | Kansas City Royals
After raking in a South Atlantic League-leading 19 home runs and 56 RBIs with the Lexington Legends, O'Hearn launched his second long ball since joining Wilmington, in a 2-for-4 performance including three RBIs on Saturday. O'Hearn went 5-for-20 on the week with four RBIs over five games.
Nolan Riggs | Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (Class-A Short Season) | San Francisco Giants
The San Francisco Giants pick up from a season ago made one appearance last week, walking one while striking out a pair in an inning of work on Friday. Over 10 games, including 37 1-3 innings, Riggs has posted a 2.65 ERA, striking out 34 while walking 11 and holding opponents to a .229 average.
Matt Shelton | Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (Class-A Advanced) | Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers' 2011 24th-round pick made his second and third appearances since being promoted to the Class-A Advanced Quakes last week. After struggling on Wednesday, allowing nine runs and six hits in four innings of work, the righty recovered nicely on Sunday, fanning two and walking one in an inning of scoreless work.
Caleb Smith | Trenton Thunder (Double-A) | New York Yankees
The 14th-round 2013 Yankees' selection drew the loss on Tuesday, allowing four runs in 4 2-3 innings of work, but appeared sharp on Sunday, allowing two hits and no runs in three innings. The lefty is 8-6 on the season with a 3.84 ERA and 4-2 with a 3.23 ERA over his last 10 appearances.
Ryan Tepera | Buffalo Bisons (Triple-A) | Toronto Blue Jays
The reliever made two appearances with the Bisons last week, tossing 1 2-3 innings on Tuesday, allowing just one walk while striking out two. On Saturday, the righty allowed three hits and one run in an inning of work. Tepera has split time with the Toronto Blue Jays and Buffalo, owning a 1.50 ERA in 14 games with the Bisons and 2.28 ERA in 21 games with the Jays.
Corey Toups | Lexington Legends (Class-A) | Kansas City Royals
The Royals' 15th-round selection moved his hit-streak to five games in a 2-for-3 performance, scoring two runs on Sunday. The shortstop went 6-for-16 last week, notching four RBIs and four runs over four games. Toups ranks first in the South Atlantic League in runs (71), is tied for sixth in batting average (.297) and is tied for seventh in stolen bases (29) in 93 games.
Collin Yelich | Gulf Coast League Braves (Rookie Ball) | Atlanta Braves
The Braves' 29th-round selection went 5-for-14 at the plate over five games last week. The backstop posted his first three-hit performance in a 3-for-4 outing against the Gulf Coast Astros on Saturday while also stealing his second base through 25 games. With a .271 average, Yelich is hitting at his highest tilt since July 14.
