Sam Houston State has announced a partnership with FOX Sports Southwest to webcast Bearkat football games via web and mobile app. The FOX Sports Southwest agreement coupled with games carried through the Southland Conference television agreement will mark the first time in program history all regular season games, home or away, will be available to watch by fans across the country.
Games that are webcast by FOX Sports Southwest will be available online, on mobile devices and will be available for network telecasts as well, beginning with the Sept. 26 home game against Houston Baptist.
“We are excited to be partnering with FOX Sports Southwest for this upcoming football season,” said director of athletics Bobby Williams. “Never before have our fans had the opportunity to watch every single game on any device they choose.”
The Southland Conference recently announced a new broadcast deal with both ESPN3, the American Sports Network and Cox Sports Television to air football games this fall. Those conference partners have first rights to games and decisions can be made up to 12 days before kickoff.
For the games that will be webcast by FOX Sports Southwest, the broadcast will be available on the FOX Sports Go app as well as FOXSportsSouthwest.com. In addition, to the multimedia offerings, all games will be available for FOX pick up for live television on FOX College Sports.
Also, as part of the partnership, every Sam Houston football game that is webcast by FSSW will also have a rebroadcast within 72 hours on FOX Sports Southwest, similar to the current Big 12 No-Huddle show. The game will be condensed into a one-hour format and will include postgame interviews.
Every Friday night during the season, FSSW will promote Sam Houston football as part of its high school football coverage. The update will include highlights and interviews to promote the following Saturday's football game.
“One of the key components for us that made this deal attractive was the ability to have the games available on the FOX Sports Go app, and to have the no-huddle replay air the following Tuesday,” Williams said. “Also to have every single game of the season promoted during the Friday night high school coverage is huge. We will reach a new group of fans who obviously love football in the state of Texas.”
FOX Sports Southwest is available to more than 10 million cable and satellite TV homes in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana. The network holds the exclusive regional cable television rights to the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs of the NBA; the San Antonio Stars of the WNBA; the Dallas Stars of the NHL; and the Texas Rangers of Major League Baseball. In addition, the network also provides regional coverage of collegiate sporting events from the Big 12 Conference and Conference USA, as well as the cable rights to the University Interscholastic League, carrying its state championship games for football, boys' and girls' basketball, baseball and softball.
FOX Sports GO is currently available for iOS, Android, Kindle Fire tablets and Fire phones, select Windows devices, and on desktops through FOXSportsGO.com. Fans can download the mobile app for free from the iTunes App Store, Google Play, Amazon App Store and Windows Store. Subscribers of participating video providers can enjoy access to live games and events in FOX Sports GO year-round.
