
Q & A With Volleyball's Sarah Cranek

The latest installment of Meet the Bearkat volleyball team question and answer sessions today features Sarah Cranek.
The sophomore kinesiology major from Taft High School in San Antonio played in 22 matches last year for the Bearkats.
Question: How old were you when you started volleyball?
Sarah: I was 13, in the seventh grade.
Question: What is your favorite volleyball memory?
Sarah: In high school I always loved playing our rival team Warren because all of my friends and family would come out and support like crazy and my team always ended up winning because we were so pumped.
Question: Who is your favorite athlete?
Sarah:: Flo Hyman – she is such an inspiration to this game and always dedicated her time and effort into becoming a better player on and off the court.
Question: What are your favorite TV shows?
Sarah: American Horror Story and Friday Night Lights, both of these shows never failed to keep me engaged and attentive.
Question: What's the most fun part of volleyball practice?
Sarah: Whenever we are given the opportunity to take on drills that require 'playing it out' or working on solid defense, I'm happy.
Question: What's the least fun part of volleyball practice?
Sarah: Conditioning due to errors.
Question: If you could visit anywhere, where would it be?
Sarah: I've always wanted to take a trip to any country that is 'struggling in the world's eyes' because I would love the opportunity to learn the culture of others and to help out in any way that I can.
Question: What is your favorite thing about Sam Houston State?
Sarah: I'm a huge fan of the green-life and the beautiful campus of Sam Houston!
Question: If you didn't play volleyball, what sport would you be playing?
Sarah: I'd definitely be playing softball. It's a game that has always come natural. Some may think it's boring to watch but I have a great time on the field.
Question: Any pre-match superstitions?
Sarah: Not any that I can think of, superstitions psych me out.
Question: What music pumps you up to play?
Sarah: I like to listen to Drake's album Nothing Was the Same.
Question: What are your personal goals heading into the season?
Sarah: There are many goals this season but my main focus is to just play the game I love without any limitations. I don't want to hold back, I want to take advantage of every opportunity this season has to offer.
Question: What are your hobbies?
Sarah: I love to hike or find random trails with my friends!
Question: What is your favorite food?
Sarah: Chinese food stole my heart when I was in the first grade. Sweet and Sour chicken is definitely my favorite entrée.
Question: What social media site do you use the most?
Sarah: I'm constantly on Facebook because of friends and family.
Question: What is your favorite holiday?
Sarah: New Year's Eve is always an amazing day with my family and best friends. I'm obsessed with great food, bright fireworks, and wonderful company.
Question: In three words, how would you describe yourself?
Sarah: Others tend to resort to the word 'crazy' but I just find myself to be an outgoing, humble, and light-hearted extrovert.
Question: What piece of advice would you give to younger players?
Sarah: Volleyball is what you make of it. If you're willing to practice every day and dedicate most of your time and effort into this sport you will see results. Play this game for yourself and nobody else, be selfish.
