Catch up with senior keeper Kylie Hambleton

Each week leading up to the 2015 Sam Houston State soccer season, we'll spotlight one of 10 seniors. As a unit, the class has helped vault the Kats into a consistent competitor in the Southland Conference. Last season, the Kats posted their highest win total in league play at 8-2 and took second. With nine starters and 15 letter winners returning in 2015, SHSU seeks its first conference title in program history.
Today's interview features senior Kylie Hambleton. A season ago, the Katy product started 17 of 19 games as goalkeeper, allowing just 1.38 goals per game. Hambleton notched 71 saves for a .747 save percentage.
Question: Who is your favorite soccer player?
Hambleton: Abby Wambach
Question: What is your favorite soccer memory?
Hambleton: Long bus rides with catch-phrase and other games
Question: Any favorite television show?
Hambleton: One Tree Hill
Question: If you could visit anywhere, where would it be?
Hambleton: Australia
Question: What is your favorite thing about Sam Houston State?
Hambleton: I like that it is not in a huge city and I love the support and advice that the athletes get from (associate athletic director of student services) Mrs. Thompson.
Question: If you didn't play soccer, what sport would you be playing?
Hambleton: Basketball or swimming
Question: Any pregame superstitions?
Hambleton: Too many to list, but a few are: no shin guards during warm up, everything goes on the right foot first then the left, tape gets wrapped around my shin guard the same number of times every game (3) and I have to listen to select songs.
Question: What music pumps you up to play?
Hambleton: Anything with a good message about winning, not giving up and working hard.
Question: What are your personal goals heading into the season?
Hambleton: I want to be better than I was last season, win the conference, the tournament and get a ring!
Question: What are your hobbies?
Hambleton: Four wheeling, fishing, playing with my animals, spending time with family and friends.

Hambleton: Chips and salsa

Hambleton: Instagram and Snapchat

Hambleton: Christmas

Hambleton: Sarcastic, hardworking and honest
Question: What advice would you give to younger players?
Hambleton: Practice like you want to play, and don't be afraid to go after your dream – even if it seems impossible.
