Week 3: Kats handle school assignments, Baylor

Hi there! So last week was a little less stressful than the week before because we only had one game to focus on. Nevertheless, we were still preparing for a tough game against Baylor. It's always exciting for us to prepare to play against a big school because we know that we have the skill and talent to challenge them.
Last week was our first full week of school, so we were all dealing with assignments that were due late last week or early this week. It gets harder throughout the school year to see our friends outside of soccer due to studying and/or just wanting to sleep! Luckily, a lot of the girls on the team have a class or two together so you get to study with them.
We had our first team dinner of the season on Thursday at Magen Ross's house. She cooks these delicious meatball rolls that everyone on the team absolutely loves! We also celebrated our fellow teammate Shelby McDaniel's birthday as well! It's always fun getting the team together for a night, especially when we get to celebrate someone's birthday with a little bit of cake!
After a long week of school and preparing for a tough match, it's finally game day! A few of us went and got a pre-game sandwich at Jimmy Johns before we met at the Coliseum for our meeting. The closer it gets to game time, the more excited we are and more focused we become. Our meetings before the game are usually just recaps over what we went over in practice and the responsibilities of each player on set plays, corners, etc. Our coaches are really good at preaching to us how great our team really is and the talent that each player brings to the field.
Finally, it's game time. Warm-up is always so intense because we try to set the tempo for what we want it to be in the game. It's gets very intense but once the coach calls us all in, everyone is all smiles because of how good the warm-up was. The intensity of the warm-up carried over to the game. It was a hard fought game and both sides had a number of opportunities. We fought hard throughout the entire match and ended up tying Baylor 1-1. It was a great game and we were proud with how we played. We look forward to this weekend, as it is our last weekend of non-conference games before we start conference next Friday!
