Q & A With Volleyball Freshman Jaclyn Ward

Today's installment of “Meet the Bearkat Volleyball Team” features one of the newcomers to the 2015 squad, setter Jaclyn Ward.
The Oak Ridge product registered 1,608 assists, 163 aces, 754 digs and 269 kills during her high school career. She was a two-time team captain and all-district selections.
Question: How old were you when you started volleyball?
Jaclyn: I was 10 years old
Question: What is your favorite volleyball memory?
Jaclyn: In high school when we beat The Woodlands High School.
Question: Who is your favorite athlete?
Jaclyn: Kerri Walsh Jennings, JJ Watt, and Michael Jordan
Question: What are your favorite TV shows?
Jaclyn: Prison Break, Gossip Girl, Friends and Criminal Minds.
Question: What's the most fun part of volleyball practice?
Jaclyn: Scrimmaging the girls at the end of practice.
Question: What's the least fun part of volleyball practice?
Jaclyn: If we ever lose the scrimmage—that's the least fun.
Question: If you could visit anywhere, where would it be?
Jaclyn: Anywhere with a really nice beach.
Question: What is your favorite thing about Sam Houston?
Jaclyn: My favorite thing is how close the volleyball girls are and how this is my family away from home.
Question: If you didn't play volleyball, what sport would you be playing?
Jaclyn: I would probably be running cross country or long distance track.
Question: Any pre-match superstitions?
Jaclyn: I have a certain pair of socks that I wear during games
Question: What music pumps you up to play?
Jaclyn: I have a wide variety of music that pumps me up but it all depends on the day.
Question: What are your personal goals heading into the season?
Jaclyn: To win the championship and get a ring.
Question: What are your hobbies?
Jaclyn: Volleyball, reading, running, and spending time with my family
Question: What is your favorite food?
Jaclyn: My favorite is Italian food
Question: What social media site do you use the most?
Jaclyn: I probably use Instagram the most
Question: What is your favorite holiday?
Jaclyn: The Fourth of July and Christmas
Question: In three words, how would you describe yourself?
Jaclyn: Competitive, optimistic and easy-going.
Question: What piece of advice would you give to younger players?
Jaclyn: Don't let someone else's idea of what you can and can't do stop you from achieving your goals.
Jaclyn Ward and the rest of the Bearkats will play their next home match versus Texas State on Tuesday, September 15. The match is “Grow The Growl” Night at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
