Sam Houston punter Lachlan Edwards became the tenth Bearkat to play in a post-season all-star game this weekend when he played for the American squad in the fifth annual NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in Carson, California.
Edwards punted twice for an average of 54.0 yards. His first punt went 49 yards and his second 49 yards. The National All-Stars won the game 18-17 as the University of Missouri's kicker Andrew Baggett booted six field goals. The game winner came with 13:48 remaining in the contest.
"It was an amazing experience and a lot of fun," Edwards said. "The great thing for me was how all the NFL scouts got to see you in practice and not just the game."
Previous Sam Houston players to see post-season all-star game action include Mike Ober (1989), Michael Bankston (1991) Josh McCown (2001), Dustin Long (2004), D. D. Terry (2006), Rhett Bomar (2009), Trey Diller (2012), Timothy Flanders (2012) and Dax Swanson (2012).
Edwards, who has punted the last three seasons for Sam Houston, completed his Bearkat career this fall with a 42.9 all-time average. The punter from Hastings, Victoria, in Australia holds school records for most punts in one season (80), most yards in one season (3,525) and best single game punting average (49.8).
