SAM HOUSTON VISITS LAMAR IN BEAUMONT
Riding a two-game winning streak after victories over Stephen F. Austin and Houston Baptist, Lamar plays host to the Bearkat women Wednesday night. The Sam Houston women are looking to get back on the winning track after losses to Southland leader Abilene Christian and Stephen F. Austin on the road. Wednesday's tilt it the second stop on a rugged five-game Southland road swing.
CARDINAL SCOUTING REPORT
The Cardinals are led by two of the top scorers in the Southland Conference. JaMeisha Edwards is averaging 15.2 pointsper game and Addesha Collins adds 14.1 more per contest. Lamar's other two conference victories have come of New Orleans and A&M-Corpus Christi. The Cardinals are 7-2 on their home floor at the Montagne Center.
BEARKATS VERSUS CARDINALS SERIES
Sam Houston and Lamar renew their women's basketball rivalry for the 49th time Wednesday in Beaumont. The Cardinals own a 26-22 advantage in the rivalry that includes a four-game winning streak in the series after sweeping the Kats the last two years.
LAST TIME OUT - STEPHEN F. AUSTIN 70, SAM HOUSTON 63
Despite 23 points by bot Shernise Robertson and Angela Beadle, SFA won over the Bearkats 70-63 Saturday in Nacogdoches. The Jacks never trailed, building a 14-point lead at intermission 38-24. Sam Houston out-scored SFA 39-32 in the second half but could not close the gap at the end.
SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE STATISTICS RANKINGS
For the second year in a row, Shernise Robertson is leading the Southland in scoring with an 18.2 average. Angela Beadle stands No. 2 in rebounding (9.3) and leads the league field goal percentage (.528) and blocks (38). She stands No. 10 in scoring (13.6). Robertson ranks 7th in assists (3.1).
BEARKAT PAIR MOVING UP IN CAREER STANDINGS
Senior center Angela Beadle now ranks No. 11 in Sam Houston women's career scoring (1,124 points). She needs six points to move past Andee Sheiron (1,129 in 1996-99) into the top 10 and 17 to pass Alicia Ferguson (1,140 in 1997-2000). Four more blocked shots and Beadle becomes the Kats' career leader. She currently has 159 blocks. Sequeena Thomas set the record (162) in 2010-13. Beadle ranks No. 3 in Kat career rebounds (852).
Senior guard Shernise Robertson has climbed to No. 18 in Sam Houston all-time scoring with 858 points. Robertson led the Southland in scoring last year. Her career average of 18.8 points per game is tied as the best in Bearkat women's annals. Sherry Pfister averaged 18.8 points from 1980 to 1983. Sam Houston head coach Brenda Welch-Nichols averaged 17.8 points from 1988 to 1989.
NEWCOMERS MAKING THEIR MARK
The Sam Houston women continue to see strong play from a group of outstanding newcomers to the program. The of 5-8 freshmen guards Laurynn McGowen and Kamry Orr are averaging 7.6 and 7.1 points, respectively. Both have seen more than 23 minutes action each game this season. Transfer 6-0 Jamine McCants and 5-10 freshman Lydia Baxter have added help inside. The pair have combined for 55 rebounds in Southland play.
